A Session in the Archives

Thanks to Richard Wiltshire, the borough archivist, for hosting this morning's Whitechapel Stories session at Tower Hamlets Archives. We delved into a range of historical maps and searched through the photograph collection, seeking out local landmarks and starting to build a picture of Whitechapel through time. There was a buzz in the search room as we tracked down schools, pubs, bath houses, rope walks, sugar refineries and a giant dung hill! Looking forward to returning to the archives next week to continue our research.
