Out and About in Whitechapel

For our first session this morning, our Whitechapel Stories group ventured around the neighbourhood, using a range of old maps, photos, newspaper clippings and other historical resources to make sense of what we saw. Along the way, we peered up to the Mile End Road mural commissioned by TV Edwards solicitors, met Salvation Army founders William and Catherine Booth, savoured the baking bread smells from Rinkoff’s Bakery, and met residents at Grove Dwellings. Huge thanks to the National Lottery Heritage Fund for enabling this project, and to the Genesis Cinema for hosting our welcome session. We're looking forward to seeing what Whitechapel Stories emerge as the weeks progress.
