John’s Place Tenants’ and Residents’ Association (TRA) was formed in 2021 during the covid pandemic, as residents came together to provide the first collective voice since the estate was originally built in the early 1970s. In addition to addressing immediate challenges and resident needs, it was agreed that a central ambition would be the establishment of a community mural to represent our shared history and diverse communities represented in Whitechapel. We secured funding from the National Lottery Heritage Foundation for the project at the start of 2024.
